ASD student conducting research

Research at ASD

At ASD, students don't wait until college to do real research. From middle school through senior year, they build the skills to ask meaningful questions, design original studies, and defend their findings before industry professionals.

We start early. Middle school students at ASD learn to ask good questions, gather evidence, and communicate their findings through hands-on STEM projects and integrated coursework. By the time they reach high school, the habits of a researcher, curiosity, critical thinking, and clear communication, are already well established.

Research at ASD is woven throughout the high school experience, not saved for senior year. Students develop research skills across their coursework before completing their year-long independent Capstone project. Students pursuing the AP Capstone pathway complete AP Seminar and AP Research alongside their other coursework, earning the AP Seminar and Research Certificate upon successful completion, a distinction recognized by colleges and universities nationwide. All students, regardless of path, defend their Capstone Research Project before a panel of industry professionals.

ASD students don't just learn about research. They spend years developing the skills to do it well, and every graduate leaves with an independent project, a public defense, and real research experience to show for it.

The Capstone defense is a genuine academic milestone and one of the most distinctive parts of an ASD education. Students present original research to a panel that includes industry professionals with expertise in their focus area, many of whom have mentored students through their internships.
