Inspiring the Next Generation of STEM Leaders
A tuition-free public charter school serving grades 5-12, where curiosity meets innovation and students become confident problem-solvers ready to change the world.
Who We Are
The Academy for Science and Design (ASD) is New Hampshire’s premier STEM-focused chartered public school, recognized nationally as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and ranked #1 in the state by U.S. News & World Report. Since our founding in 2007, we’ve been committed to providing world-class STEM education that prepares students not just for college and careers, but for lives of purpose and impact.
Located in Nashua, we serve roughly 700 students in grades 5-12 from 30 New Hampshire communities. Twenty-five percent of our students were born outside the United States, representing families from six continents, and 40% speak languages other than English at home. These varied perspectives enrich our learning environment and strengthen our commitment to developing global citizens.
Our Approach
ASD’s educational model follows a powerful progression: explore, specialize, make an impact.
In middle school (grades 5-8), students explore the breadth of STEM fields including aerospace, environmental science, computer science, engineering, biology, chemistry, and physics. This hands-on exposure, often taught by industry professionals, ignites curiosity and builds foundational knowledge across all scientific disciplines.
In high school, students transition to deep specialization in their chosen STEM fields. Through advanced coursework, independent research, and real-world applications, students don’t just learn science; they do science. Every graduate completes 150 hours of community service, a professional internship, and a year-long research project with public defense.

At ASD, we believe that curiosity is a catalyst for learning, that all students deserve to be challenged, and that we are all global citizens with responsibility to one another.

Our Results
One hundred percent of our graduates attend four-year colleges, with 95% pursuing STEM majors (compared to the national average of 18%). Our students consistently gain admission to highly selective universities and leading STEM institutions, demonstrating exceptional readiness for rigorous college-level work.
Our graduates leave ASD as well-rounded individuals prepared for leadership roles in science, policy, advocacy, and beyond. Through our STEM Ambassador Initiative, they develop the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences—a critical skill for tomorrow’s leaders.
Our Commitment
As a tuition-free chartered public school with lottery-based admission, we welcome students from across New Hampshire. Our recent acquisition of an expansive facility and development of state-of-the-art innovation labs reflect our commitment to providing the tools and experiences our Granite State students need to thrive.
