ASDEF Information Night & Margarita’s Fundraiser - The ASDEF PTO is holding a fundraiser and information night this week. Please join us on Monday March 11th any time from 4:00pm to close at the Nashua Margaritas. Learn what ASDEF does and support the school. 15% of your bill at the Nashua Margaritas will go to support of the school and its organizations. Please print out this handbill (or pick up a copy at the school front desk) and show it to your server when paying.
School will be closed today, Friday, March 8, due to the snow. Please check Focus and email for snow packets.
2013 I ♥ ASD Annual Fund Campaign is well underway. The final push is Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, February 13-15, 2013. We hope that by February 15, 2013 we will meet or exceed our $150,000 goal so that we can put fundraising behind us and get back to working with your kids. Please consider donating. Donations are tax deductible. Donation incentives can be found here. Wacky things our faculty and staff are willing to do to get your donation can be found here. We keep adding to this list, so check back. Mrs. Cava and others who love ASD will be calling everyone who has not yet donated during this final push, February 13-15, 2013.
Follow us on social media during the final push from February 13-15. We will be sending out electronic Valentines to each family who donates to this campaign. Charter Renewal - Mrs. Cava, ASD Director, is pleased to announce that the State Board of Education has granted our Charter Renewal on January 16, 2013. Although the time allotted on the agenda was 15 minutes in length, the board had questions that lasted over an hour. Upon the conclusion of those questions, the State Board voted to approve our renewal. Thank you to all members of the community who have supported this effort -- today is a victory for ASD and our students.
Cocoa for Cancer Patients - The ASD Student Council Outreach Committee held a hot chocolate and bake sale to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In the course of a single week, over 700 dollars was raised for this worthy cause! Thank you to Mr.Myers, Mrs.Betournay, Mrs.Demott, Mr.Haney, Mrs.Harmon, Mrs.Cava, Mrs.Moser, Mr.Baker, and Mrs.Golden for helping out with the bake sale. Also a huge thank you to Outreach Committee (Shrvani, Vickie K, Neel, Arusha, Kanza, and Noah) and their helpers Sam M, Victoria R, Maheen, and Henry, who all took the time to be at the bake sales during their lunches and study halls. Thank you!
Coats for Kids- The ASD community is participating in the Coats for Kids Drive. Collection of coats began in early November, and to date has dropped off close to 40 coats at Anton’s Cleaners for the program. The collection box will remain at the front desk until January 12th. There are school rewards if ASD is among the top 3 schools in coats donated.
Anton's Cleaners is the local coordinator of the Coats for Kids drive, which runs from October 15, 2012 through January 12, 2013. "Anyone who needs a coat will have one" is the continuing mission of Coats for Kids. Coats are needed for all ages: children, teens, adults, and babies. In its 17th year history, Coats for Kids has collected, cleaned and distributed over 744,000 coats.
Thanksgiving Food Drive - ASD held a homeroom competition to collect food for Girls Inc. in Nashua. 3 large pallets of food were collected and donated to the organization, which provides meals to those girls and their families who need them.
The mission of Girls’ Inc to help girls achieve their personal best through one-on-one attention, leadership development, a talented staff and volunteers, a wide range of enrichment programs, and a caring family environment.
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - The Student Council Outreach Committee is holding a cocoa and bake sale to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Hot cocoa and baked goods are being sold at lunches from December 6 - 14th.
LLS is the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Grade Six “A Christmas Carol” Outreach - The sixth grade is hosting a series of bake sales that coincide with their Christmas Carol unit. The bake sales’ purpose is to emphasize the theme of philanthropy in the Christmas Carol. Each class has adopted an organization and, like last year, is hoping to raise money by selling baked goods at lunch. Each class has been assigned a day to sell their goods at lunches all day.
Green: Monday, 12/17
Blue: Tuesday, 12/18
Red: Thursday, 12/20 (has adopted Pease Greeters...An organization that welcomes home troops)
Yellow: Friday, 12/21 (has adopted Heifer Project...An organization that gives livestock to villages internationally who are in need of food and resources.)
Open House for Prospective Students - The next Open House for prospective ASD students interested in applying for the 2013-2014 school year will be held on Thursday, December 6 from 6-8PM. There is no pre-registration required for this event, and both prospective students and their parents are encouraged to attend.
The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test is going to be held at ASD on Saturday, October 20th from 9:00am-12:00pm. The PSAT is a program cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). It's a standardized test for sophomores and juniors that provides firsthand practice for the SAT®. It also gives you a chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools. The cost is $30 and pre-registration with the school is required. There is no online registration for the PSAT. Please make checks to “Academy for Science and Design”. The registration and fee deadline is September 21th. You student is not registered until the check is received. If you would like to register for the PSAT here at ASD, please send email Jessica Golden at jessica.golden@asdnh.org.
Hours: ASD opens at 7:30 A.M. Students may not be dropped off before 7:30. Classes start at 8:00 A.M. School is dismissed at the end of enrichment at 3:25. The dismissal period is from 3:25-3:45. At 4:00 P.M. the building is closed and locked. All students must be picked up prior to 4. The staff provides supervision between the hours of 7:45 A.M. and 3:45P.M. There are other times when the staff (coaches, moderators, etc.) will schedule activities, and for such occasions, supervision will be provided only during the time of that activity. Parents are responsible for making arrangements regarding transportation, drop off, and pick up, in accordance with these times.

May 23, 2012 - The tradition continues. 100% of our graduating senior class are NH Scholars. The NH College University Council's New Hampshire Scholars Day was held at the Statehouse in Concord on Wednesday. About 2,000 students from 54 high schools attended the event, including our 3 seniors.
