Computers in various forms are pervasive in our modern world. This ASD focus area is intended to provide an opportunity for students to more intensively study a variety of aspects related to computers/software/electronics than they would get elsewhere. Some examples of courses or directed study areas that may be offered in future years might include:

  • Programming, including abstract concepts, and software development
  • Computer systems and architecture
  • Web-oriented concepts, technologies and development
  • Systems software
  • Application programming for specific domains (e.g. game programming)
  • Robotics systems – software/hardware
  • Artificial intelligence

The goal of ASD offerings in this area is to provide students with both a broad overview of areas relating to computers/information processing, and a solid foundation for more advanced work at the college level in computer science/engineering or related fields. Information technology is a rapidly evolving area, and ASD intends to have a strong focus on concepts and context.

For 2007-2008 ASD offered the following instruction and activities in this area:

  • Short introduction to programming
  • C# Programming
  • Digital Art and Animation
  • Short 6-week course on web design
  • Lego League and Robotics Team (Trinity College Fire Fighting Home Robot Contest)
