Collaboration

Can I access the Community if I already have a Gmail account?

Yes. The ASD Electronic Community is a separate account that allows you to send and receive Gmail (Google email) using your @asdnh.org email address. Your Community account provides the benefits of Gmail in an ad-free environment.

Return to questions

Which browsers can I use to access the Community?

For information on the web browsers that Google supports, see the Google website.

Return to questions

Why can't I log into my account through the Google site?

The ASD Electronic Community powered by Google is ASD's installation of the Google Apps for Education software suite, which Google offers to educational institutions and non-profit organizations. Because of account customization and security requirements, users must log in through one of the ASD portals (mail.asdnh.org, calendar.asdnh.org, or docs.asdnh.org).

Return to questions

How come my ASD Electronic Community account doesn't have the same applications as my personal Gmail account?

Your ASD Electronic Community account is part of a software suite called Google Apps for Education, which Google offers to educational institutions and non-profit organizations. Google decides which services to include in the Google Apps for Education software suite.

Return to questions

What if I want to use a Google program that is not offered through ASD Electronic Community?

If you wish to use a Google program that is not included in ASD Electronic Community, such as Google Groups, you can use your personal Gmail account. If you do not have a personal Gmail account, you can sign up for one at www.google.com.

Return to questions

What are the policies that apply to my ASD Electronic Community account?

Your ASD Electronic Community account is subject to ASD Computing Policies. Your ASD Electronic Community account will be subject to Google's email quota policy, which is currently 7 gigabytes and constantly growing. Google does not place limits on how long users can keep email. Your ASD Electronic Community account is also subject to Google's terms of service and privacy policies.

Return to questions

Can I opt out of ASD Electronic Community if I change my mind?

You are free to stop using your ASD Electronic Community account whenever you wish.

If you no longer wish to have your ASD Electronic Community email forwarded to your personal email account, you will need to change your forwarding preferences.

Return to questions

How do I change my passwords?

You can change your page. From any of one of the ASD portals (mail.asdnh.org, calendar.asdnh.org, or docs.asdnh.org) click "Settings" in the upper right corner. Select the "Accounts" tab. Click "Change Password" and follow instructions. More information can be found in Google's help.

Return to questions

What is Gmail?

Gmail is Google's email program. Gmail provides more than 6 gigabytes of storage and contains features such as integrated chat and phishing protection. For more information, see Google's Gmail information page.

Return to questions

Do I have to switch my email in order to use the ASD Electronic Community?

No. You are free to leave your email on ASD's email servers or to forward your email to whatever other email address you choose. You do not need to switch to ASD's email in order to access other parts of the Community. We do strongly encourage you to set up a forward if you do not intend to regularly check your Community account.

If you choose to use your new Community account, you will have access to more than 7 gigabytes of storage and be able to keep your email for an unlimited length of time, as long as you continue to be eligible for a Community account. If you choose to leave your email on ASD's email servers, your email will remain subject to ASD's email retention and storage limits. You will be able to change your email settings whenever you wish.

Return to questions
